At El Obrador, we are committed to everything involved in supporting creation, training, development, advising, and fostering talent. And all of this is committed to helping young people and those who have the hardest access to film and culture.
We understand film education as a journey that begins in childhood, where children discover the potential of cinema as an artistic, cultural, and ethical gesture. Together with teachers, we aim to teach and empower through audiovisual creation as a language that is both effective and stimulating.
For this reason, we have various lines of work developed by us or in collaboration with local or national institutions. We have developed courses and workshops with OFF ESCAC, the Regional Ministry of Education, Palma Educa, the Ministry of Culture, the University of the Balearic Islands, the CEF (Centre for Education), Juníper Serra, and CESAG and CEP, among others.
MENTORING
A two-year creative mentoring project in which audiovisual professionals guided young people from Palma in the creation of their first documentary short films . The project works with groups of 10 to 15 young people per edition, in collaboration with educational centers such as IES Juníper Serra. Each young person develops their documentary idea from script to final editing, receiving individual mentoring. The program culminated with a public screening of the short films in Majodcos, with a large attendance from family members and the community.
CALMADOCS – CREATION RESIDENCES
Summer artist residency for young, budding filmmakers, organized in a natural setting in the Tramuntana Mountains. Over two intensive weeks, 12 young people from the Balearic Islands developed their first documentary films in an immersive outdoor creative environment. The program, co-designed by El Obrador, combined practical workshops (field filming, creative improvisation) with daily mentoring. This experience, beyond the film itself, sought to disconnect participants from their urban routine and foster contemplative creativity (without technological distractions, connecting with nature).
DOCUMENTARY FILM COURSES
Promoting cultural empowerment, collective self-esteem, and social cohesion are some of the objectives of these courses, in which we learn not only how to use the camera and video editing tools but, more specifically, how to think of ways to represent what matters to them or how to self-represent who they are.
We offer various courses in collaboration with various organizations to learn how to create short documentaries. Contact us for more information.

WORKSHOPS FOR CHILDREN
(6-15 years)
In a world dominated by moving images, discovering audiovisual media as a tool for artistic and cultural creation and self-representation is essential to the learning journey.
In these eminently practical workshops, we learn the value of cinematic images not only through watching films but also through the early creation of audiovisual pieces. Because it is in making that children discover how to think and make decisions in images, building emotion, storytelling, and community.
Through the Conselleria d’Educació and the CEP of Inca we have had the opportunity to put into practice several workshops where in a few hours,
TEACHER TRAINING
A socio-educational project developed in collaboration with the Conselleria d’Educació (Balearic Government) and the Palma Educa program of the City Council, aimed at teaching secondary school students about documentary filmmaking through viewing and analysis of films. The project involved a dozen secondary school and vocational training centers in Palma. The dynamic consisted of classroom sessions, followed by a screening of films in the cinema with the presence and discussion of filmmakers, followed by a discussion on the subject and narrative format.
