In 2018, the director’s mother was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. One of the few words she can still say is “Charlie.” This film was born from that persistent name, as an attempt to hold on to what is disappearing.
I am pleased to present my project entitled 'Charlie. Last Words', a short, intimate, and highly visual documentary that portrays my parents' experience of living with their psychophysical limitations, such as Alzheimer's and a nervous disorder. I don't place much emphasis on dialogue; instead, the photography is paramount, seeking a visual narrative that conveys sensitivity, harmony, and delicacy through monochrome imagery and the use of vintage photographic lenses from the late 19th century adapted for film cameras.
